Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna was established on 15th July 2006. It was founded by the Government of Bihar. CNLU is an autonomous institution. The Institution offers graduate and post-graduate courses in the field of law only. These courses are approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI). There are 140 seats for UG law courses.


The Institution has its campus, which spreads over 18 acres of land. It is located in Nyaya Nagar, Mithapur in Patna, which is the state capital of Bihar. The campus is well-connected by bus, train & airport transportation. The nearest railway station is situated about 2 km away from the university.


The University has modern classrooms with a well-equipped audio-visual aid facility. It has also tutorial halls, computer labs, academic and administrative block, canteen, medical facilities, sports, banks, ATMs, etc.

CNLU has a spacious and air-conditioned library with a wide collection of more than 11000 books, e-books, journals, subscriptions, CD- ROMs, On-Line databases, magazines, newspapers, etc.

There is a well-managed residential accommodation with all modern facilities for the students.

The University also organizes training workshops, regular career fairs, and one-to-one guidance for students.

It has a multipurpose hall that acts as a common ground for students, Moot Court, Seminars, Workshops, corporate personalities for regular interfaces, conferences, & other events.

For LLB admission, applicants should have to appear in the CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) examination. It is a centralized test to get admission into NLUs.

For the LLM course, applicants have to appear in the entrance examination which is organized by the university.

For Ph.D. admission, applicants can apply for the entrance test conducted by the university. Those qualified UGC NET and JRF are also qualifying in the entrance test for enrollment in Ph.D. Courses.
